When reporters ask about abandoned Americans, Secretary of State Blinken turns around and walks away

Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s press briefing on Afghanistan on Monday ended with him turning his back and walking away as reporters began asking questions about the hundreds of US citizens who were left behind in Afghanistan.
Blinken had given an almost 20 minute speech on the state of the withdrawal.
As he left, a reporter said: “Has this administration broken its promise that no American will be left behind?
Blinken didn’t answer any questions, instead he left the room.

Blinken: “We will keep the Taliban in their commitment to let people leave Afghanistan freely”
During his speech, Blinken said the Biden administration would “lead with our diplomacy” and work with the Taliban to keep Americans in the country.
“We will continue our tireless efforts to help Americans, foreign nationals and Afghans leave Afghanistan if they choose to do so. Our commitment to them has no end date.
The Secretary of State said: “We will keep the Taliban in their commitment to let people leave Afghanistan freely.”

“The Taliban are committed to letting anyone with proper documentation leave the country in a safe and orderly manner,” Blinken said. “They have said it several times in private and in public. “
“On Friday, a senior Taliban official repeated it on television and radio,” he added. he added. “And I quote:” All Afghans can leave the country, including those who work for the Americans if they wish and for any reason. “”

“Here too, we will hold them accountable for this commitment,” he added. “But while we have expectations of the Taliban, that doesn’t mean we will rely on the Taliban.”

Americans left behind
The Political Insider reported that although “President Joe Biden initially promised that the United States would ‘stay’ in Afghanistan until all Americans was evacuated ”, many still remain in the country.

“On Monday, Marine Corps General Kenneth F. McKenzie Jr. announced that the last US troops stationed at Kabul airport had left,” The Political Insider noted. “And hundreds of Americans have been left behind. “
For what many see as a dereliction of duty, House Republicans filed articles of impeachment against Blinken on Thursday.
The articles read: “Secretary Blinken did not faithfully keep his oath and instead presided over a reckless abandonment of our nation’s interests, security and values in his role in the withdrawal of US forces and diplomatic means of ‘Afghanistan.
