The mayor of ‘Sanctuary City’ DC now wants the National Guard to help deal with the illegal immigrant crisis
Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser has declared the nation’s capital a “sanctuary city.” However, it now appears that she was ‘for’ thousands of illegal immigrants entering the country before she was ‘against’.
What amounts to a normal morning on the Texas border is now — in DC’s sanctuary city — a “humanitarian crisis.”
As around 4,000 migrants have been transported to the city so far, Bowser appeals to the National Guard for help.
CC @MayorBowser calls for activating the National Guard to manage the influx of illegal migrants into the city, calling it a “humanitarian crisis”.

Not in my garden
The Biden administration’s open border policies have pushed border states like Texas to the limit of their resources with the large number of migrants crossing the border daily.

In an effort to draw federal attention to the seriousness of the problem, Texas Governor Greg Abbott earlier this year began busing illegal immigrants to Washington, DC.
Abbott was not alone in his frustration. In November 2021, the Biden administration was putting migrants on flights to Florida. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said, “If they come here, we’ll get them buses. I will send them to Delaware and do that.
Last week, Bowser sent two letters to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. In one, she even blamed Texas and Arizona: “The migrant crisis facing our city and our country because of the cruel political game of the governors of Texas and Arizona must be dealt with at the federal level.”
It’s quite a different tone from the one the mayor took in November 2016, oddly just after the presidential election, where it ‘reaffirmed’ DC’s status as a sanctuary city:
“Washington, DC’s values, laws and policies did not change on Election Day. We celebrate our diversity and respect all DC residents, regardless of immigration status. We are a sanctuary city because that we know our neighborhoods are safer and stronger when no one is afraid to call on our government for help, and when our police can focus on protection and service.
so if 4K immigrants are a crisis in DC, what is 200K crossing the border every month??? 🤔

Mayor Bowser recently made an appearance on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” She pointed out that migrants are somehow being ‘tricked’ into getting on buses heading to Washington, D.C.
“We believe these are largely asylum seekers heading to final destinations other than Washington, D.C. I have worked with the White House to ensure FEMA provides a grant to an organization community that provides services to people. I fear they are trapped in nationwide bus trips when their final destinations are anywhere in the United States of America.
She also doesn’t believe DC taxpayers should foot the bill for migrant treatment. She stated,
“Local taxpayers are not footing the bill. They shouldn’t take the tab. We really need a coordinated federal response. We know that this is done for refugees arriving in states from all points of the world and the same must be done in the situation. »
It’s funny, no doubt what border residents of Texas have been saying for decades.

The border crisis is not getting better
The flow of illegal immigrants to the southern border shows no signs of abating. The number of crossings for June alone totaled 207,416. Seizures of drug shipments were mixed, with cocaine and methamphetamine increasing by 62% and 14% respectively. Seizures of heroin and fentanyl were down 49% and 41%, respectively, according to Border Patrol.
Eric Adams, another sanctuary city mayor of New York, is also calling on Joe Biden to send help at the federal level. In a statement filled with an equal amount of irony and self-recklessness, Adams said, “We need some of those states that have given people one-way tickets – we need them to understand that it must be a partnership in this country to take care of those who come here to seek refuge, asylum.
Bottom line, 4,000 in Washington DC is a crisis. 207,000 in Texas, not a crisis. Turns out being a Sanctuary City is awesome…until you have to be one.
