Buzzfeed dropped a shocking report Tuesday, stating that the FBI played “a much bigger role” than was originally revealed in a high-profile article on an alleged plot to kidnap Michigan Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

The kidnapping plot was reportedly discussed at a meeting in Ohio around June of last year, and plans were made until October, when six of the men were first arrested.

A total of 14 people were arrested in connection with the bizarre plot, including 13 pleading “not guilty”.

Federal investigators described several of the arrested men as “anti-government extremists” who were angry at Whitmer’s strict COVID-19 policies, according to the Associated Press.

But a review of the case would have determined that the bureau and their informants did more than play the role of small players in the plot – they helped get people to act.

“The government documented at least 12 confidential informants who aided in the sprawling investigation,” writes BuzzFeed.

That’s almost an FBI informant for every person charged in the plot.

The role of the FBI in the plot to kidnap Whitmer

Report finds prosecutors collected thousands of social media posts, hundreds of thousands of text messages and more than 1,300 hours of recordings that allegedly prove those charged were guilty of attempting to implement the conspiracy.

The defendants, however, counter that they were victims trapping.

BuzzFeed reports seem to suggest their accusations are not without merit.

“A review of the case by BuzzFeed News also reveals that some of these informants, acting under the direction of the FBI, played a much larger role than previously reported,” they reveal.

“Working in secrecy, they did more than just passively observe and report the actions of suspects,” writes BuzzFeed.

The report goes on to claim that the FBI “was involved in almost every aspect of the alleged plot, starting with its creation.”

Including the offer to procure explosives for the group.

“For six months, the Iraq war veteran wore a thread, collecting hundreds of hours of recordings. He was not the only one. Another informant was a biker who had traveled from Wisconsin to join the group. The man who advised them where to put the explosives – and offered to get them as many as the task required – was a fbi secret agent. “

They add: “The extent of their (FBI) involvement raises questions as to whether there would have even been a conspiracy without them.”

The accused allege the trapping

Fox News host Tucker Carlson extrapolated what is alleged in the BuzzFeed report into the events on Capitol Hill on January 6.

Buzzfeed makes a similar note in their reporting: “The daring plot to kidnap a sitting governor – seen by many as a precursor to the Jan.6 assault on the U.S. Capitol by hundreds of protesters supporting Trump – has become the one of the most important. domestic terrorism investigations in a generation.

“The conspiracy at the end,” said Carlson, referring to the Whitmer case, “it seems there were more FBI – snitches, informants, people working with the FBI – involved in the conspiracy. that no.”

“It was an FBI plot,” he insisted.

Buzzfeed asks the relevant question about Whitmer’s plot:

“The extent of their involvement raises questions as to whether there would have even been a conspiracy without them.

A longtime Wisconsin government informant, for example, helped organize a series of meetings across the country where many suspected plotters first met and first notions of a plan took hold, say some of those people. The Wisconsin informant even paid for hotel rooms and food to entice people to come. “

So far, there is no indication that the FBI or any other law enforcement authority was involved in the planning or actions taken during the Capitol incident.

For Carlson and others, like progressive journalist Glenn Greenwald, the Whitmer episode has all the hallmarks of abuse at the height of the War on Terror.

Northwestern University Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology wrote about FBI actions back in 2015.

Greenwald has also reported extensively on FBI tactics.

Also in 2015, Greenwald asked, “Why does the FBI have to fabricate its own plots if terrorism and ISIS are such serious threats?”

The court cases for the Whitmer defendants are expected to provide more answers about the FBI’s true involvement in the planning and execution of the conspiracy.
