A police officer pleaded guilty to the kidnapping and rape of Sarah Everard.

PC Wayne Couzens, 48, appeared at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, when he accepted responsibility for the murder of the 33-year-old marketing executive.

Everard disappeared as she returned to a friend’s house in Clapham, south London, on March 3. A major police investigation was opened and his body was found a week later in a forest in Kent.

The Metropolitan Police officer was wearing khaki pants and a gray sweatshirt when he appeared by video link from Belmarsh Prison in south-east London.

He pleaded guilty to kidnapping Everard “illegally and by force or fraud” on March 3. He also pleaded guilty to a second rape charge between March 2 and March 10.
