Atlanta Braves outfielder Marcell Ozuna was bailed $ 20,000 on Monday for aggravated assault by strangulation and assault and battery, according to the Associated Press.

Ozuna was arrested on Saturday after police saw him suffocate his wife and throw her against a wall. The 30-year-old had visible injuries but was not taken to hospital.

Major League Baseball has opened an investigation into the incident and Ozuna could face a major suspension. The Braves also released a statement saying they would not comment on the case until the investigation was completed.

Ozuna re-signed with the Braves after a strong 2020 season. He also spent time with the Miami Marlins and the St. Louis Cardinals.

The double All-Star will likely be placed on the shortlist, which will prevent him from being paid.
