A man has been arrested for stabbing a 12-year-old boy at his eight-year-old sister’s birthday party in Liverpool.

The attack took place on Wednesday afternoon in Bootle, after two men allegedly ambushed the party, which was attended by dozens of children.

Merseyside Police said the the assault was “not a random attack” and continue to investigate.

Ambulance teams arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and the boy was taken to hospital. His condition was not thought to threaten his life and he should make a quick recovery.

A 20-year-old man from Bootle was arrested Thursday morning by Merseyside Police on suspicion of intent to cause and causing grievous bodily harm.

Speaking to Liverpool Echo, a relative of the victim spoke of the shock to the family: “It all happened in front of the boy’s mother, we can’t believe it happened, at the eighth birthday party. birthday of a girl ”.

DCI Gayle Rooney of Merseyside Police called the incident “despicable” and confirmed that an investigation into the incident was underway.

“While it is nice to have made a quick arrest, our investigation is continuing and we are gathering all the information to gather the circumstances. If you’ve seen anything or have a CCTV, dash cam, or other hardware, send it to us ASAP, ”Rooney said.

“We understand the concern that such an incident arouses in the community. It was not a random attack and we believe everyone involved was from the region.
