During his HBO show “Real Time” Friday night, host Bill Maher called out Republicans and Tim Scott (R-SC) after the GOP senator rebutted the president’s State of the Union speech Joe Biden Wednesday.

Maher discusses Scott

“Republicans chose their only black senator, Tim Scott, who works a lot on television. And he said: “America is not a racist country” ” Maher said. “And, within 24 hours, Biden was okay with that, Kamala Harris was okay with that.

“I think that’s a silly paradigm to put – to begin with,” he added. “Because it’s not an either-or-either. … Tim Scott, on his own, once said he was taken off seven times in a year. He said he’s been followed in stores, he’s the only black Republican senator, okay that’s proof of racism. So clearly we are a recovering racist country or something like that. But yeah, I mean, both things are true.

Maher carillon guest

“I felt sorry for the man,” said guest guest, author Nancy MacLean. “I mean, he’s from the party that put – worked with the tobacco industries to deny the harms of tobacco smoke, and then he works with the – captured by the climate denying fossil fuel industry.”

“So it’s just the next logical step,” she added. “And they denied the insurgency. They denied that the election was won. But you would think he would look around and say, how come they keep giving me pointers?

“Okay, I agree. But – and I think most – I mean, I don’t think Kamala and Biden are dishonest when they’re okay with this, we’re not one – because they think of the millions and millions of people. who aren’t, and they just don’t want to be told all the time, every day, come on, you think you’re not racist? Dig a little deeper, ”Maher replied.

Meghan McCain defends Scott

It comes after Meghan McCain defended Scott on “The View” against racist attacks Democrats launched at him.

“In response, he tended on Twitter to call himself ‘Uncle Tom’ and ‘Uncle Tim’, which many Americans consider a racial insult,” McCain said. “There is nothing wrong with being racist and using racist slurs against black men as long as they are Republicans. I am disgusted by the response given to him.

“The way we talk about him, the way he is not respected, don’t talk to me about racial micro-aggressions in this country,” she said. “Don’t tell me about the problems we have in this country with racism when it’s okay to talk and treat a black man this way who happens to be the most famous black Republican senator in the country.” It’s okay to treat him that way.
