Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman is expected to miss at least 10 days and could be out for even longer.

Through Alyson Footer from the MLB website, Houston put Bregman on the injured list on Thursday due to left quad strain he suffered in Wednesday’s 8-4 win over the Texas Rangers. The 27-year-old suffered the backhand on his way to first base in an attempt to beat a double play late in the game’s first inning and did not return.

Manager Dusty Baker told reporters on Wednesday night he expects Bregman to be sidelined for “a while”.

Bregman is heading to the IL .275 bat with seven home runs and 34 RBIs on the campaign. In a matching roster move, the Astros recalled wide receiver Garrett Stubbs from Triple-A Round Rock.

Houston, meanwhile, enters Thursday’s game against the Chicago White Sox at 39-28 and second in the American League West standings, 2.5 games behind first place Oakland Athletics.
